Garabito

Where are we ?

The house is located in a quiet residence, close to Quebrada Ganado (playa Agujas) and Punta Leona (playa Mantas and playa Blanca ) in the canton of Garabito (region of Jacò).

We are located in a rural and residential area between wooded hills and cultivated plains.

The house is located in a quiet residential cul-de-sac. It is a well-lit, asphalted public street.

Many birds can be seen there (in particular the iconic scarlet macaw, the red parrot - "lapa roja").

There is an excellent restaurant at the end of the street.

The village of Quebrada Ganado with its shops (restaurants, grocery stores, bakeries...), is just 1 km away. It is an authentic and charming pueblo where it is good to walk.

For thrill seekers, you can practice various activities in the area: horseback riding, waterfall, zip line, quad biking, sea trips ...

Access is easy by car or bus.

What to do ?

The beaches in the region are all different:

Tarcoles : traditional fishing village, ideal for tasting super fresh "mariscos" (seafood)!

Agujas and Bochinche : dark sand, mostly frequented by ticos (Costa Rican).

Mantas : very quiet (small wave), but bring water shoes because of the pebbles and corals.

Blanca : the white sand must be earned because you have to go through playa Mantas, being careful of the tides. It is one of the prettiest beaches in the region.

Herradura : horseshoe-shaped (as the name suggests), not too big waves, this is where you will find the "Los Sueños" marina famous for its sport fishing and golf. From there the taxi-boat leaves for Montezuma.

The seaside of Jacó offers a large choice of restaurants, bars, nightclub but also many shops and surf schools.

Hermosa : black sand as far as the eye can see, very wild, huge waves reserved for professional surfers.

You don't like the beach so much?

The hinterland is also worth a detour: steep hills covered with forests, waterfalls and beautiful panoramas, an outing to Lajas or Bijagual will enchant you!

The "pueblo" (village) of Quebrada Ganado will allow you to understand the daily life of a simple and normal Costa Rican village, not only touristy.

If you want to experience nature, a guided visit to the nearby Carara National Park will be very informative.

Ideas for activities: a typical week

Monday :

Discover the village of Quebrada Ganado to find the shops that will be useful to you during your stay.

Walk (or quad) to Playa Agujas .

Tasting of patacones (fried plantains) at the restaurant at the end of the street "La Ostra" or at home.

Tuesday :

Go to Jacó : go up to the mirador (it climbs a little but not that much) to see the beautiful panorama. Eat a "casado", the typical meal in a soda (small restaurant). Take a surf lesson or lounge on the beach. Take a walk around the city in search of the painted walls or take the opportunity to do some shopping.

On the way back, make a detour to the Hotel Villa Caletas for an aperitif: the view over the golf course of Nicoya at sunset is a spectacle not to be missed!

Wednesday :

Manuel Antonio Park is one of the most famous in Latin America. Located about 1h20 by car, it's a bit far but well worth it. You will see monkeys, raccoons, sloths, frogs and multicolored butterflies. Inside the park is a famous beach.

Thursday:

Spend the day at Playa Blanca and Playa Mantas . Don't you fancy the beach? Take to the heights in Bijagual and Lajas . Visit the waterfall (with a 5km hike) "Catarata Manantial De Agua Viva". At sunset, stop at the restaurant "Tiko Mirador Surf & Turf" with its magnificent view over the estuary of the Rio Tárcoles.

Friday :

Explore the nearby Carara National Park. Famous for its birds, this is the opportunity for a beautiful hike in the jungle.

Go to the Crocodile Bridge to see these impressive reptiles basking in the waters of the Rio Tárcoles. You can also take a boat trip from the village to see them up close: thrills guaranteed!

Stop at Tárcoles, a typical pueblo where fishing is still artisanal. Go to the beach to see the fishermen at work. Buy fish or seafood from the cooperative or enjoy a meal in a local restaurant.

Saturday :

Visit Neo Fauna, a refuge for wild animals, 10 minutes from Jacó. You will (finally!) be able to see the animals up close and your contribution will be greatly appreciated.

In Playa Hermosa, have a drink with a sea view, for example at the "Vista Hermosa" restaurant or at the "Backyard". Every Saturday at 4 pm, this bar hosts the "Backyard Surf Series". This is an open surfing contest in "expression session" format. There is no registration fee, everyone is welcome to come and participate. In the water, you'll see members of the Costa Rican national team practicing Latin America's most modern surf. At 5 p.m., it's time for music and party.

Sunday :

Go to Herradura, at "Vista Los Sueños Adventure Park" for a zipline ride, a must-do activity in Costa Rica. You can also go horse riding, canyoning, quad biking ...

Go to Herradura beach to taste an excellent "ceviche" (marinated raw fish) at the "El Pelicano" restaurant, overlooking the beach. Then you can enjoy the beach or why not, discover sport fishing or go golfing?

Other ideas:

Go to the market in Orotina on Friday morning. This is the opportunity to see a very representative tica city, famous for its fruits and vegetables.

Spend a day in Puntarenas or San José , the capital with its museums and central market.
